On 9 November, Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines killing thousands of people and leaving millions struggling in its aftermath. Rotary extends its sympathy to those affected by the storm and stands ready to come to the aid of the more than 21,000 Philippine Rotarians and the communities they serve.

One of the strongest storms in history, Typhoon Haiyan brought overwhelming destruction to coastal towns, killing more than 5,200 people, displacing 4.4 million, and causing billions of dollars in damage. Soon after the storm, Rotary clubs worldwide began rushing relief aid and funds into devastated communities.

Our District has a number of clubs that have very successful fundraising events.  But most clubs are continuously on the lookout for new ideas.

We're introducing a new section on the District website to help with the exchange of information regarding fundraising - what works, what doesn't, and where can you learn more.

This truly is a site under construction - we are endeavoring to build a site with experiences from several clubs in the District.

Rotary clubs around the world are pledging emergency aid to communities in central Philippines after last week’s massive typhoon flattened entire coastal towns and villages, killed thousands of people, and displaced nearly 600,000 more.

The situation remains dire as widespread destruction has made food, water, and medicine scarce in remote areas affected by Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest storm to make landfall on record.

Rotary President Ron Burton is urging our 34,000 clubs worldwide to continue to assist storm victims.   Read the full article in "Rotary News"

The government of Guatemala awarded the Order of the Quetzal, the country's highest honor, to The Rotary Foundation last month, in recognition of Rotary's humanitarian work in Guatemala and its contributions to the campaign to eradicate polio.
