The program this week is the Santa Clara County Search & Rescue Team.  They are a non-profit that has the Santa Clara County name attached but are not funded or under the direction of the County.  The Sheriff’s Department calls them out when needed which is often; they are a volunteer organization.

Wednesday’s meeting was our annual Kick Out Party held at Picchetti Winery to a sold out venue with over 100 Rotarians, mates and friends in attendance.

We had great food from Mario’s, great wine from Picchetti ‘s along with wonderful fellowship and camaraderie.  After 45 minutes of fellowship, the meeting kicked off with the pledge led by PP Bev Lenihan and followed by Annie Ho’s inspiration.

Once dinner was served and well underway, the music by Keith Kreft, Brad Mann and Diana Ding and yours truly was outstanding... as usual... and the crowd participation rivaled any Neil Diamond concert.   We had 18 of our 25 Past Presidents in attendance, including Its Uenaka and his wife, Marian.

In bringing President Hsing Kung into the Past Presidents’ Club, many speeches, gifts and toasts were presented by Liz Gallegos, Jim Walker, Orrin Mahoney, Steve Ting, Eleanor Watanabe,  David Tsang and yours truly.  Hsing was given his Past President’ pin and Savita Vaidhyanathan was presented with her new President’s pin.

Probably the highlight of the evening was the short but wonderful speech from now Past President Hsing.  He continues to set an example for his predecessors.

Check out the pictures that our own Jimmy Olsen (Alex Verstak) and Wesley Zhang (Diana Ding's husband) posted at then end of the article or  at this link:  http://tinyurl.com/k9lxbpa.

A big thank you to the 16 member HKKOP committee for your hard work, and especially for the extra effort by Leslie Hay, Helen Davis and Marj Mancuso.  The food, wine, and setting were very enjoyable.

Finally, thanks to all of the Past Presidents and speakers that contributed the evening.  It made it extra special for Hsing and Margaret.  Enjoy the pictures and see you this coming Friday at Hsing's.... Happy Trails, to you....

What can I say about my first (Rotary) trip to Cuba?

Tropical feel,  Hawaii-like landscape, hot afternoons;  long and rich Spanish history - forts and 300 year old buildings;  frozen in time from 1959; rich agricultural feel; wonderful Latin music; creative artists, slow pace of life with little hustle and bustle; warm hearts; great collection of ancient cars, supplemented by a  great collection of horse drawn taxi-cabs and fat tire bicycles;and pretty good food.

What an experience (for the 14 traveling Rotarians and friends) it was to see this country  and its people,  so close to our borders.   In starting this project and making it happen, this was a huge a gift that our fellow Rotarian, Teresa Erdman, brought to the travelers' lives. An eye-opener by any definition, it was a project/trip of "paving the way".  The current medical equipment project is still active - undergoing an arduous approval process from both the Cuban and U.S. governments.  Sooner, rather than later, the medical imaging equipment will find its way home to William Soler Children's Cardiac Hospital in Havana.

If you would like to be on Hsing's Weekly Agenda please contact Hsing Kung or Helene Davis, by the Sunday night before the meeting.

If you would like to include slides as part of your announcement, please send them to Gigi Lam well in advance of the meeting, at least 3 to 4 days, and she will be able to include your info in the flow of the meeting - either as background, or at a critical moment to reinforce your message when you are at the microphone for your one minute of fame.

This is particularly important for club chairs who want to announce meetings, accomplishments, or details that are better covered with more than a one minute verbal overview. Send Gigi bullet points and she will do the rest.
